Diego’s Autism ACTION Day

April 3, 2013

Yesterday was World Autism Awareness Day which is great in theory and blue lights are nice, but my son is still autistic and I have nothing to show for yesterday.  Hello today!  Today is Diego’s Autism ACTION Day!  Today I invite you to join our journey and, if you can, make a donation toward our home-based, parent-led, child-centered autism treatment plan.  It is called the Son-Rise Program that I run with Diego, age 7, at home and we have already seen substantial improvements in his behavior.  The program is all about joining Diego in his interests in a distraction free playroom so he can experience the joy of social interaction.  In joining his world I am slowly able to invite him into mine.  This is not behavior modification or teaching him social rules on paper – it is genuine bonding with someone who doesn’t understand social cues.  We have spent 40  hours in just one month in the playroom so far and the possibilities in that room are endless.  The possibilities for Diego are endless.  His eye contact has increased tremendously and his level of calmness has improved.  Please browse around the blog, check out the Autism Treatment Center and if you can please donate toward our program by contributing funds toward tuition of the next Son-Rise program in Sheffield, MA for me.  The class, New Frontiers, costs $2500 and every little bit helps.  Your donations will DIRECTLY BENEFIT A SPECIFIC BOY WITH AUTISM.  This is where World Autism Awareness Day bears no resemblance to Diego’s Autism ACTION Day as Diego’s day can have absolute results through grassroots action.  Please join our journey in any way you can: follow the blog, donate funds, volunteer with our program, send prayers and positive thoughts.  Today is Diego’s Autism ACTION Day and you CAN make a difference.  Click on the donate button to give.  Please share with friends!

Diego and Sara are friends of ours. Those moments when worlds bridge are profound and overwhelming. Here’s to more of them.

  3. I have worked directly with children with autism, one on one. I understand, completely. Count me in.
My niece, now nephew (yes, I said that correctly) was diagnosed with autism or asperger’s over the years. He is now nearly graduated from a four year university. He (she at the time) was considered high functioning.
